A CASE OF ANTHRAX HAS TURNED UP IN THE US. A 63-year-old man is hospitalized in critical condition in Florida, diagnosed with pulmonary anthrax. Anthrax, a bacteria that forms a toxin in the blood, has been mentioned as a possible terrorist weapon. The incubation period for anthrax can be between 48 hours and 60 days. But Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson said he believes this to be an "isolated" case, rather than evidence of a terrorist attack. There were only 18 cases of inhaled anthrax reported in the US during the entire 20th century. The bacteria is not contageous. MEANWHILE, THE SEARCH CONTINUES FOR A CROPDUSTING PLANE missing since early Monday when it took off from an area near the Bahamas, headed for southern Florida.
