How I wish I were thirty years younger.  I'd be there! -- Viejo, TX

FROM SAN DIEGO: A banquet bartender at the San Diego Paradise Point Resort wrote to TheLatest.Net saying she was so distraught by the September 11th massacres that she's turning over a portion of the tips she makes to the Red Cross in memory of those who died.

"I'm hoping that you can help me with this campaign" she calls Tips Against Terrorism. She calls on others in the hospitality industry to donate a portion of their tips or perhaps an hour's pay to contribute to this cause.

"If every tipped employee.. would (donate to the Red Cross  proceeds of) one shift, it might help make a difference."

Most importantly, "It sure helped me cope with my feelings toward this tragedy." -- KL, CA (edited for space)

How could this have happened? ...We're spending too much time worrying... -- Gill, VA (edited for space)

We are getting a clearer picture of which nations are our friends and which are our enemys.  Egypt, for example , is clearly our enemy.  I would like to see the White House release a list of the nations that we have given money to over the past five years.  I know that Egypt got a lot.  I understand that Afganistan did to.  Are we just a nation of fools, or are we cowards giving our lunch money to the school bully?

-- Viejo, TX

We pay the price for freedom. We should ask ourselves: Should we offer the freedom to work,
to travel and to live in our countries to all
persons? Or should we step back a little and exclude people whose
cultural level is too different from ours? -- Bohm

I'm from the Mideast and I can tell you Afghanis are stupid people, but good fighters. If we set our minds to it, we can defeat the Taliban and liberate the people from a fanatical, murderous regime. -- AL, CA

During the sixties, I spent quite a bit if time in Lebanon.  I knew a number of Lebanese citizens, and thought that of all middle-easterners, they were culturally most like Americans .   They are a democtratic-minded people.

Now I see that Lebanon is on most of the lists making the news site rounds; lists of nations we should attack.  The terror that flows from Lebanon is PLO and Syrian planned and delivered.  These forces conspired to make it appear that Lebanon was in a civil war, then marched in pretending to be peace-makers and conquered the country.

The U.S. let it happen in spite of pleas for help from the Lebanese, and when the Syrians and the PLO murdered several hundred of our Marine peacekeepers, we tucked in our tail and went home.  In the name of those dead Marines, why don't we start our crusade by making Lebanon free, and at the same time, eradicate a major seat of terrorism?   -- Viejo, TX

I'm afraid, once again, we are planning too little, too late.  Destroying training camps and killing a few leaders won't do the job.  Ruthlessly conquering rogue nations, such as Yemen, Libya, Syria, Iraq, North Korea, Sudan, etc, and providing full support for democratic elections will. It's now a small world, and we have no choice but to be involved.

And what will we do about the US citizens (and legal immigrants) who support IRA and PLO terror?  Will we prosecute them with the same vigor?  Are we really going to wipe out terrorism?  Or is this just another case of frustrated anger that will burn out after hanging an example?

By the way, you were correct about the gas prices. I believed CNN, who published reports of price gouging as actually happening.  Turns out they were wrong, you were right.  Good job. --Viejo, TX

We cannot let them go unpunished for what they did to the innocent. -- Ricardo

Osama bin Laden reminds me of Lee Harvey Oswald, a patsy for a great crime who was set up by forces much larger than he can imagine. -- KillLaden, IL

BIN LADEN FAMILY MEMBERS FLEE THE US IN FEAR

OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM: "It's about self defense."

CALMING WAR JITTERS: FEARS OF BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL TERRORIST ATTACKS ARE OVERBLOWN, EXPERTS SAY

THE LATEST:
RICH FAMILY MEMBERS OF TERRORIST OSAMA BIN LADEN HAVE BEEN QUIETLY FLEEING THE US OVER FEARS THEY COULD BE TARGETS OF REPRISAL ATTACKS.
There are reports the millionaire Saudi mass murderer may have 25 or more relatives living in the Boston area alone, including a Harvard Law School graduate and a nephew who's said to have left the University of New Hampshire, vowing to return, according to the British Independent. Most of those in the bin Laden family have disavowed Osama's suicide-murder tactics. Many of bin Laden's family members left September 18th after realizing that America may not be a great place for them to be right now, following the nearly seven-thousand deaths in the World Trade Center and Pentagon suicide-destruction. Ironically, the bin Ladens left on a private jet from Logan Airport in Boston, the Independent reports. It was from Logan that two of the September 11th hijacked-jets flew.

SOUNDING VAGUELY LIKE A ONCE-FAMOUS WORLD WAR TWO NAZI, BIN LADEN said Tuesday that Jews will be targeted along with Americans for future terrorist attacks because they have "defamed the name of Islam." Bin Laden failed to cite instances in which such defamation occurred.

A NEW INTERNET VIRUS IS MAKING THE ROUNDS: WTC.EXE, which carries the subject line: "Peace between America and Islam." The Email poses as a poll question; the authors of the virus obviously hope it will successfully destroy portions of many computers' harddrives because lots of people will open it because of the emotional subject matter. The virus destroys files and overwrites web pages on a computer harddrive. So far, distribution of the virus is low, CBS News reports.

"THERE IS NOT GOING TO BE A D-DAY...IT WILL BE DIFFICULT, IT WILL BE DANGEROUS." Those words Tuesday from Secretary of State Donald Rumsfeld testifying before Congress about the war on terrorism, now dubbed "Operation Enduring Freedom." The Pentagon also said Tuesday that the military has stopped thousands of key troops from leaving the services as the US mobilization continues.

ATTORNEY GENERAL JOHN ASHCROFT AGAIN ASKED CONGRESS FOR THE LOOSENING OF SURVEILLANCE LAWS to combat terrorism. At Tuesday testimony before the House Judiciary Committee, Ashcroft said that under current law, terrorists have "a competitive advantage."

INTERPOL HAS ESTABLISHED AN INTERNATIONAL TASK FORCE AGAINST TERRORIST ATTACKS.

HOW WERE 19 MEN CONVINCED TO FLY ON PLANES THAT WOULD CRASH INTO THE WORLD TRADE CENTER AND THE PENTAGON? A new theory suggests the majority of the men didn't know they were on a suicide mission but thought the passengers aboard the planes were simply to be taken hostage, CBS News reports. Investigators are also said to be considering the possibility there were to be five people on board each suicide plane -- but one of those set to hijack -- Zacarias Moussaoui -- was arrested two weeks before the September 11th attacks on INS violations.

POSSIBLE -- UNCONFIRMED -- TERRORIST THREATS AGAINST US WATER SUPPLIES have utilities managers on special alert

THE TIMES OF INDIA MENTIONS THE LONG-AGO LINK BETWEEN THE BUSH FAMILY AND THE BIN LADEN FAMILY.

UNDERSTANDING THE WAR: Just take a look at Pakistan (could a toppling government lead to war with India again?), Saudi Arabia (has there been a secret deal between Osama bin Laden and the crown prince of Saudi?) and Egypt (the nation is the fulcrum of moderates and radicals in the Middle East -- should Egypt side with bin Laden and/or Saddam Hussein, it could be disastrous for the US-led coalition). These three nations will be key to the success of the War on Terrorism. -- The Sierra Times.com

SAUDI ARABIA HAS DROPPED RECOGNITION OF THE TALIBAN IN AFGHANISTAN, leaving only Pakistan recognizing the Taliban leadership.

A SAN ANTONIO DOCTOR WHO WAS RELEASED MONDAY AFTER DAYS OF QUESTIONING RELATED TO THE WORLD TRADE CENTER MASSACRE has denounced the terrorist attacks. Al-Badr Al-Hazmi was released Monday after being questioned by the FBI. "I'm totally innocent, guys," he told those at a news conference.

NATO HAS BEEN ALERTED OF POSSIBLE TERRORIST ACTION AGAINST US PEACEKEEPING FORCES IN BOSNIA.

THE UNITED NATIONS HAS CONDEMNED THE SEPTEMBER 11TH ATTACKS AS "CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY."

GENERAL ALEXANDER HAIG, a veteran of the Nixon and Reagan years, says it's time to warn other nations that if they use nuclear weapons of any kind, the US will respond in kind. -- NewsMax.com

BLOOD ON HIS HANDS? Ex-President Clinton is reportedly telling anyone who'll listen, including talk show hosts, that the September 11th tragedies weren't his fault. NewsMax.com says the former president has even taken to stopping strangers on the street to offer excuses why he didn't get Osama bin Laden during his tenure as chief executive.

THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION IS WARNING NATIONS AROUND THE WORLD OF POSSIBLE TERRORIST ATTACKS USING BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL WEAPONS. The international health coalition said at a health conference in Washington Tuesday that it's increasing its vigilance and trying to inform governments on how to cope with such a devastating attack.

ANOTHER GOOD DAY ON WALL STREET TUESDAY: The Dow was up 50 to close at 8654; the Nasdaq up two at 1501.

BECAUSE OF SECURITY CONCERNS, TOP TELEVISION SHOWS ARE FILMING WITHOUT A STUDIO AUDIENCE, some for the first time.

AFTER SOME DELAYS -- PARTLY BECAUSE OF THE SEPTEMBER 11TH DISASTERS -- THE FIRST SATELLITE RADIO SERVICE HAS BEEN LAUNCHED. Many of the radio stations are commercial-free, most are talk-free; the service costs about $10 a month.

NORTHWEST AND AMERICAN AIRLINES CONFIRM THEY'RE NOT GIVING SEVERENCE PAY TO EMPLOYEES BEING LAID OFF.

"THE OBJECT HERE IS TO PROTECT PEOPLE FROM TERRORISM," Presidential Spokesman Ari Fleischer said Tuesday, adding that the US will not attempt to topple the Taliban rulers of Afghanistan but will act against the radical Islamic militia who harbor terrorists. Should the US attack Afghanistan, terrorist Osama bin Laden is likely to take command of Taliban forces, according to a Russian Itar-Tass report.

RINGGOLD, GEORGIA -- there'll be a new public display in government buildings in response to the September 11th terrorist attacks: copies of The Lord's Prayer, The Ten Commandments -- and an empty picture frame. Town leaders say they want to be fair -- the empty frame is for those who believe in nothing.

SENATORS AGREE WITH FED CHAIRMAN ALAN GREENSPAN THAT TAX CUTS SHOULD BE PART OF A NEW ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE to help the US economy out of possible recession.

MORE THAN HALF A BILLION DOLLARS HAS BEEN GATHERED IN CONTRIBUTIONS TO HELP THOSE INVOLVED IN THE RELIEF EFFORTS AT THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. The United Way and the New York Community Trust say they're stunned at the outpouring of help and money they've received; they're now under pressure to get the money to those who need it most.

A RUSSIAN POLICE ORGANIZATION SAYS A MAP OF THE SUICIDE STRIKES ON THE WORLD TRADE CENTER HAS BEEN CONFISCATED FROM A RESIDENT OF CHECHNYA and the Chechnyan arrested.. On back of the map was the word, "Jihad," meaning holy war.

CROP DUSTING PLANES WERE BACK IN THE AIR TUESDAY -- BUT NOT NEWS MEDIA HELICOPTERS, which have been grounded since September 11th by order of the FAA. News directors nationwide call this a "dangerous precedent."

AS MUCH AS 30-THOUSAND DOLLARS COULD BE GOING TO EACH OF THE FAMILIES OF VICTIMS IN THE WORLD TRADE CENTER TRAGEDY. The American Red Cross is starting a gift program totaling 100-million dollars for the families of those killed in New York and in the Pentagon in Washington.

ON AT LEAST ONE OF THE FLIGHTS HIJACKED ON SEPTEMBER 11TH, THERE WAS A "GUEST" IN THE COCKPIT EVEN AS THE PLANE TOOK OFF. THAT GUEST TURNED OUT TO BE ONE OF THE HIJACKERS, according to Fox News. And there were reportedly  a dozen other flights that landed when all planes were grounded just after the attacks, each with Middle Eastern men sitting in "guest" "jumpseats" probably wearing stolen pilot uniforms, indicating there may have been plans for many more hijackings that terrible day. None of those "guests" were arrested.

WHILE IT IS POSSIBLE FOR TERRORISTS TO ATTACK WITH CHEMICAL OR BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS, it won't be easy for terrorists to do; not nearly as easy as hijacking planes and crashing them into landmarks. While some TV anchors, magazines and Internet sites exacerbate war jitters with news of cheap, "easy" new terrorist weapons, fear runs high across the United States that a devastating chemical or biological attack is imminent, based on federal grounding of all cropdusting planes in the US at least three times since the September 11th tragedies. But experts, detailing the procedures necessary for such attacks, say it would take great skill to deliver such weapons -- and cropdusting planes wouldn't be efficient in doing so.

THE US HAS WARNED ITS ALLIES OF POSSIBLE TERRORIST ATTACKS THIS WEEK. Pakistan could be struck, as could a NATO ally, a US government report says.

PRESIDENT BUSH HAS SIGNED AN EXECUTIVE ORDER FREEZING THE ASSETS OF 27 PEOPLE AND ORGANIZATIONS IDENTIFIED BY THE FEDS AS TERRORISTS.

THE SEPTEMBER 11TH TERRORIST ATTACKS MAY HAVE BEEN SO WELL ORGANIZED THAT INTERNET DOMAIN NAMES LIKE "ATTACKONTWINTOWERS.COM" WERE REGISTERED MONTHS AGO. There is evidence that these months-ago registrations were not referring to the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center but were in reference to a deed that had not yet been done, according to CNS.com. At least one of the domain names reportedly used the year 2001. In retrospect, the registrations don't appear to have given domain registration companies reason to contact the FBI. After all, we didn't take terrorism that seriously then. An investigation is underway.

AIRPORTS MAY GET HIGH-TECH FACE-RECOGNITION SYSTEMS to aid in the identification of those wanted for various crimes -- including terrorism.

NATIONAL IDENTITY CARDS ARE BEING PROPOSED IN ENGLAND ON A "VOLUNTARY" BASIS, and the idea of national IDs are being proposed to President Bush as a way to help curtail terrorism.

REUTERS NEWS SERVICE IS DROPPING USE OF THE WORD "TERRORIST" IN ITS NEWS STORIES because, company heads say, "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter...'Terrorist' is a loaded term." Reuters editors say they don't want to imply morality when characterizing suspects or actions.

FULLY NINETY-PERCENT OF AMERICANS APPROVE OF THE WAY PRESIDENT BUSH IS HANDLING HIS JOB SINCE THE SEPTEMBER 11TH ATTACKS, a new poll from USA Today-CNN-Gallup indicates.

RIGHT-WING POLITICIAN LYNDON LAROUCHE, ECHOING A THEORY THAT'S ON THE RISE ALONG THE INTERNET, BELIEVES THE ATTACK ON THE WORLD TRADE CENTER AND THE PENTAGON WAS NOT BY MIDDLE EASTERN TERRORISTS -- BUT, UNTHINKABLY,  BY ROGUE ELEMENTS WITHIN THE US GOVERNMENT. "It was too well planned," he says, adding that it looks like a "black operation" among the US military, perhaps to rally America to war and cover up a world economy sliding into a major depression, which will now be merged with the so-called "New World Order."  Some call LaRouche -- who's run for president seven times -- and his followers a "cult."

OSAMA BIN LADEN:

From Brown University anthropologist William O. Beeman's 1998 essay, "Of Bombings In Afghanistan..." from the Brown University Op-Ed Service: "To the north of Afghanistan is one of the wealthiest oil fields in the world - on the eastern shore of the Caspian Sea in the new republics of the former Soviet Union. American oil  companies are involved in an oil boom larger than any in the last 40 years in this region. Untold wealth is at stake, depending on getting the oil out of the landlocked region through a warm-water port." That's why Saudi Arabia and UNOCAL had planned an oil pipeline through Afghansitan -- but abandoned it because of the political instability of the nation.

"Enter Osama bin Laden, a sworn enemy of the United States living in Afghanistan. His forces could see that the Taleban would eventually end up in the American camp if things proceeded as they had been. His bombing of U.S. embassies in East Africa (since there were none in Afghanistan) was accompanied by a message for Americans to get out of "Islamic countries." By this he specifically meant Afghanistan.

"The American response was to bomb bin Laden's outposts while carefully noting that his forces were "not supported by any state." This latter statement was an attempt to rescue the Taleban relationship while giving the Taleban leaders the message that they must ditch bin Laden. For good measure American missiles also took out a factory in the Sudan - a smoke screen for the real target of their action.

"Now matters are really in a mess. Iran has actually issued a statement supportive of the U.S. actions. The Taleban are angry, and American citizens across the globe are now the targets of the most fanatical of Islamic militants."

"Every time the United States has attempted one of these slick back-door deals, American citizens get burned. What our foreign policy community never seems to learn is that religion and ideology are as strong a motivating force in this region as money or guns. We underestimate these factors every time, and our myopia gets us in trouble every time."
